A sharper uncertainty principle

The work strengthens the result established by L. Cohen on uncertainty principle involving phase derivative. We propose stronger uncertainty principles not only in the classical setting for Fourier transform, but also for self-adjoint operators. We also deduce the conditions that give rise to the equal relation of the uncertainty principle. Examples are provided to show that the new uncertainty principle is truly sharper than the existing ones in literature.

In this paper, the author studies the mapping properties for some general maximal operators and singular integrals on certain function spaces via Fourier transform estimates. Also, some concrete maximal operators and singular integrals are studied as applications.     

Affine Near-Semirings Over Brandt Semigroups

In order to study the structure of A ⁺(B _n )—the affine near-semiring over a Brandt semigroup—this work completely characterizes the Green's classes of its semigroup reducts. In this connection, this work classifies the elements of A ⁺(B _n ) and reports the size of A ⁺(B _n ). Further, idempotents and regular elements of the semigroup reducts of A ⁺(B _n ) have also been characterized and studied some relevant semigroups in A ⁺(B _n ).     

Static reanalysis for topological modifications of structures

A procedure for reanalysis of various structures subjected to various topological modifications is presented. The procedure is based on the results of a single exact analysis and the factorization of the stiffness matrix of initial structures. It is suitable for the case of addition of joints, where the number of the degrees of freedom is increased. The method deals with the stiffness matrix of structures directly, so it can be used with a general finite element system. It is shown that the proposed approximation method is most effective in terms of accuracy, efficiency, and ease of implementation.     

Role of Ag addition in L10 ordering of FePt-based nanocomposite magnets

The FePt system has important perspectives as high-temperature corrosion-resistant magnets. In the form of rapidly solidified melt-spun ribbons, FePt-based magnets may exhibit in certain cases a two-phase hard–soft magnetic behaviour. The present paper deals with a microstructural and magnetic study of FePtAgB alloys with increasing Ag content. The aim is to identify and confirm the effect of Ag addition in decreasing the temperature of the FePt disorder–order structural phase transformation. A detailed high-resolution transmission electron microscopy study is employed, and the alternative disposal of hard and soft regions within the two-phase microstructure is observed and interpreted with respect to the X-ray diffraction results. In the as-cast Ag-containing samples, it is shown that there is an optimum of the Ag content for which best magnetic properties are obtained. Ag addition creates a nonlinear behaviour of the coercive field and the ordering parameter, similar to the RKKY interaction-induced interlayer exchange coupling (IEC) observed in magnetic layers separated by non-magnetic spacer layers. Direct formation of the L1₀ phase from the as-cast state in the FePtAgB alloys is reported with magnetic parameters compatible to other exchange spring permanent nanomagnets. These findings open novel perspectives into utilization of such alloys in applications requiring magnets operating in high-temperature industrial environments.     

Existence of solutions in variational relation problems without convexity

Two main existence conditions for solutions of variational relation problems are established without convexity. The first one is based on a finite solvability property and the second one on generalized KKM mappings. These conditions unify and strengthen several existing results in the literature on the topic. A model of satisficing process by rejection is considered which gives an economic interpretation of the introduced concepts.     

Application of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and orthogonal projections to latent structures/partial least squares regression for estimation of procyanidins average degree of polymerisation

Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy has being emphasised as a widespread technique in the quick assess of food components. In this work, procyanidins were extracted with methanol and acetone/water from the seeds of white and red grape varieties. A fractionation by graded methanol/chloroform precipitations allowed to obtain 26 samples that were characterised using thiolysis as pre-treatment followed by HPLC-UV and MS detection. The average degree of polymerisation (DPn) of the procyanidins in the samples ranged from 2 to 11 flavan-3-ol residues. FTIR spectroscopy within the wavenumbers region of 1800-700 cm⁻¹ allowed to build a partial least squares (PLS1) regression model with 8 latent variables (LVs) for the estimation of the DPn, giving a RMSECV of 11.7%, with a R² of 0.91 and a RMSEP of 2.58. The application of orthogonal projection to latent structures (O-PLS1) clarifies the interpretation of the regression model vectors. Moreover, the O-PLS procedure has removed 88% of non-correlated variations with the DPn, allowing to relate the increase of the absorbance peaks at 1203 and 1099 cm⁻¹ with the increase of the DPn due to the higher proportion of substitutions in the aromatic ring of the polymerised procyanidin molecules.     

Some new Strichartz estimates for the Schrödinger equation

We deal with fixed-time and Strichartz estimates for the Schrödinger propagator as an operator on Wiener amalgam spaces. We discuss the sharpness of the known estimates and we provide some new estimates which generalize the classical ones. As an application, we present a result on the wellposedness of the linear Schrödinger equation with a rough time-dependent potential.     

Full analogy of Sharkovsky's theorem for lower semicontinuous maps

A full analogy of the celebrated Sharkovsky cycle coexistence theorem is established for lower semicontinuous (multivalued) maps on metrizable linear continua. This result is further extended to triangular maps.
